What is YOUR story?
Whether you are a landscape photographer or a portrait photographer, a documentarian or a fine artist, everyone has a story inside. It might be your personal story, it might be the story you want to put into the world, and it might even be something that lives inside your imagination. Whatever it is, storytelling is key to creating compelling images that make people come back time and time again. Storytelling is about discovery and connection. If someone can look at an image and feel connected to it, they can come back time and time again to discover something new in it as well.
I believe that great photographs tell a story. I believe there is no discrimination between genres of photography or the stories people tell; as long as you have something to say, your art will be unique. This workshop goes through the process of storytelling through photography. The goal is to tap in to each participant’s way of working and thinking, and to instill a sense of inspiration in each person. Beyond storytelling, the workshop will have a heavy emphasis on image manipulation and compositing. Shooting and editing of multiple images combined into one to create certain effects will be covered, and can be a wonderful way to spice up your photography.
The group will learn how to tell a story with your personal voice. All participants will leave with the knowledge of how to work in Photoshop, how to edit multiple images together seamlessly, and how to achieve certain effects by doing so (levitation photography might be covered). There will be discussion at length about each participant’s portfolio and how each individual can most benefit from the class. Portfolio reviews and business advice will be given upon request. A DVD editing tutorial video will be given to each participant at the end of the day to reinforce the editing techniques covered.
A schedule of events can be found below, along with an outline of pricing and model information.
Schedule of Events
9AM | This time will be dedicated to a presentation as well as getting to know the needs
of each participant. Portfolios will be shared so we can get a sense of all involved.
This is about YOU!
10AM | As a group, we will be planning a photo shoot to conduct together. Everyone’s input
is welcome as we discuss various stories and techniques that we can put into our
group photo for the day.
Also during this time, each participant will brainstorm ideas for your own unique
picture that will be shot after our group photo shoot. This is YOUR idea and you
should photograph what you are passionate about.
11AM | We will all work together and shoot the group photo that was brain stormed in the
previous hour. This is the image that we will edit later in the day together.
12PM | The next two hours will be dedicated time for you to set up your own unique shot to
take away from the workshop. You may utilize the models, props, location, and me
to help with your image.
This is all YOURS, so make it count!
2PM | Lunch will be provided during this time.
3PM | During this time I will edit the image we shot earlier in the day from start to finish in
my style of editing. I will be teaching how to seamlessly edit the various elements
together as well as how to put your own personal stamp on the edit. I will be sharing
tips and tricks of my own, such as texturing a photograph and expanding the frame.
5PM | Our day ends here, but I will be giving you a tutorial DVD to take home so we can
hang on just a little bit longer!
