Lindsay Adler & Brooke Shaden Workshop!

Last spring, right around this time, I got to meet Lindsay Adler for the first time. If you don’t know who she is, click this link right now. Your life will be better for it. When we first met, I thought we had little in common – she shot fashion, I shot fine art; she shot in a studio, I shot all on location…But then we got to talking, and I realized I had found my photographic counterpart. While what we did was often very different, our mindsets were very much the same. We have, in the course of this past year, been able to learn from each other, grow with each other, and develop a teaching style that blends together really well. We have taught together twice now at the After Dark photography convention, and wanted to continue that trend with our personal workshops as well.

Lindsay and I are now offering  a special collaborative workshop. The details:

Lindsay Adler & Brooke Shaden Workshop
Fashion & Fine Art on Location

What: A 1-day, hands-on workshop that will take you through the process of shooting on location in the desert of California. Lindsay will be demonstrating various techniques for cutting edge fashion photography while Brooke will be using the same setting to demonstrate techniques used in the fine art world.

A list of what will be covered: How to find inspiration & harness creativity |  the business of fashion photography and fine art photography  how to take a fashion image and turn it into fine art   how to shoot nudes on location   how to shoot fashion on location, and so much more!

Below are some images that will be discussed and re-interpreted during the workshop from Lindsay and Brooke.

Brooke will be teaching the cloning technique as well as how to shoot fine art nudes. These images largely play on the idea that the human form can mimic so many different shapes, and the landscape is a wonderful setting for these types of pictures.

This image was created by projecting a shadow of lace onto the model's skin by using only the sun and some creative editing. How to create an image like this will be covered.

Flowing fabric can often work really well in a setting like we have for the workshop, so multiple types of "flowing fabric" shots will be covered throughout the day.

Lindsay will be teaching how to work with natural light, something that she has mastered in all forms. Whether you want a soft, dreamy look or a harsh, more avant-garde look, Lindsay can help you achieve it.

Use of bold color and creative styling is often a recognizable feature in Lindsay's work, and she will demonstrate techniques to get it "just right".

Forms, shapes, lines, composition...all of this goes into creating a great fashion image. Lindsay will cover important tips to creating a balanced image.

In addition to the full day of shooting, Brooke will each be giving away a DVD editing tutorial so that if you find yourself stuck with the images shot from the day, you can brush up on some new editing techniques to light that creative spark. Lindsay will have a full creative team for the day for wardrobe, hair and makeup as well.

When: April 15, 2012  |  9am-7pm

Where: A bus will take everyone to the location, which will be about an hour north of Los Angeles (In between Santa Clarita and Lancaster). A meeting point will be established after registration.

Cost: The cost will be $350 per person.

Participants: 20 (split into 2 groups of 10)

How: Brooke will take one half of the group for the first part of the day while Lindsay works with the other half. Midway through the day the groups switch instructors so that everyone gets equal time shooting the different stations that will be set up and everyone gets to learn from each instructor.

Models: Brooke and Lindsay will each have at least one model for the day for each group to shoot. Brooke’s model will be a fine art nude model while Lindsay’s will be a fashion model.

Food: We will be providing breakfast and lunch (fruit, muffins, sandwiches) and water throughout the day.

If you’d like to sign up, you can click this link to register! We hope to see you there!
