20 Reasons Why I Love Being an Artist

1. I am as good as dead without being able to find passion in life. Creating art is to constantly find passion and suspend it in time, always there to come back to, always a reminder of all that is fulfilling.

2. Sometimes I wonder if I will remember the little moments that made me cry, or the times when something was so beautiful it made me shiver. Creating art reminds me of the moments that fill me up and make me whole.

3. To be an artist is to express yourself, even the parts of yourself you never knew needed to be expressed.

4. Some people think it is difficult to be an artist, but the truth is that we are all artists, and I am happy to be part of that grand club.

5. If I had a nickle for every time I saw a piece of art and it moved me, I wouldn’t be very rich. If I had a nickle for every time I saw a piece of art and it had an impact on me, I would be the wealthiest person in the world. Creating art gives us a platform to impact others.

6. I’ve always been told I dressed a little bit oddly. “You know plaid and tie dye don’t go together, right?” or “Are you colorblind?”. Let’s just admit it – being an artist is a great excuse to dress yourself…well, let’s just say “expressively”.

7. Being an artist has allowed me to meet so many new people. It is like we are all in this together, and the artists I have met are some of the most encouraging, loving people in my life.

8. Being an artist allows you to see the art in everything, even the most mundane. Suddenly the world is a canvas, and the things inhabiting it are props on the world stage.

9. Being an artist means that you create from within first and foremost. By creating from within you learn to trust in yourself, have courage, and above all, have confidence.

10. Creating allows us to put our imaginations into more tangible form. Suddenly I am able to live in the worlds I dream of because of the art that I create.

11. The process of creating makes someone an artist just as much as having a finished product does. The journey is where memories are made and our true selves are discovered. The end result is the icing on the cake.

12. There are countless ways to see the world. By looking at art, I get to see how others view the world. By putting my art out there, I am able to show others how I see it.

13. The brilliance of being an artist often means that thinking of the most absurd things is completely normal for a typical day.

14. Everyone has a unique voice and point of view, and to create art is to let that voice carry throughout the world. It is to have your opinions heard.

15. They say that everything has already been done, but I disagree. To be a true artist means to create from within, and if you are creating from within it is impossible to create something that has already been done before.

16. Being an artist means that you can capture moments exactly as you want to remember them.

17. “Art” is defined as something that is of “more than ordinary significance” – By definition, anything that we create and enjoy is art. Art is in everything and truly is in the eye of the beholder.

18. Creating art allows us to live life immersed in what makes us happy. We can create whatever we want, and in doing so we create our own reality.

19. Art requires nothing of us. We do not have to go to school for it, we do not have to understand geometry or physics or anything written about in a text book. It only requires us to look inward and create what we are most passionate about. Creating art frees us from what is often regarded as “right” and lets us redefine what is right for us.

20. Art is in all things. It represents our dreams. It is the heartbeat of the world. I love being a part of that.
