
The way people are posed in Balthus paintings intrigue me. Not only are they usually in sexually compromising positions, they seem to have a look of joy on their faces. And yet, there is always something off balance, or out of sort. There is usually someone lurking in the background.
For my last photo I was inspired by the poses and outfits found in his paintings. I will probably do more with his work, as this was really only very loosely inspired by Balthus and also loosely inspired by the poses and levitation tricks of Miss Aniela.
